Melissa Selb received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Rehabilitation Counseling from Boston University (Massachusetts, USA). She worked in several rehabilitation facilities and agencies in the United States before moving to Germany in 1992. As a Rehabilitation Counselor, Melissa provided vocational rehabilitation and case management services to people with various disabilities. In Germany, she worked for Caritas running a counseling centre and half-way house for homeless people. Melissa worked in the pharmaceutical industry organizing scientific conferences and coordinating communication and promotional activities for 10 years before joining the ICF Research Branch at the Swiss Paraplegic Research in Switzerland. Three of those years, she was an administrator of a medical research foundation and a grant programme.

In her position as Coordinator of the ICF Research Branch, Melissa serves as the main contact person for the WHO Family of International Classifications Network (WHO-FIC) partners and other collaborating partners worldwide on ICF and ICF-related projects including ICF Core Sets development projects. She is responsible for disseminating ICF information to interested parties, for coordinating and conducting ICF workshops as well as providing publication-writing support.
